10 Things To Accomplish Before The New Year

10 Things To Accomplish Before The New Year

And that’s a wrap on 2018…well, almost! It’s always nice to start a new year with a clean slate — not to mention clean skin! — so here are 10 things we’ll be doing before ringing in 2019 with a bang.

Join us, or use these ideas as inspiration when creating your own list of to-dos to accomplish before the clock strikes midnight.

  1. Toss all expired makeup, sunscreen and skincare. If a product is past its prime, it’s time to replace it.
  2. Take down and store your holiday decorations. Once the New Year rolls around, they’re the last thing you’ll want to see.
  3. Send thank-you notes to people who gave you holiday gifts. There’s no time like the present to express appreciation for your presents.
  4. Exfoliate your face and body. Out with the old (dead skin cells) and in with the new (younger, vibrant cells)!
  5. Treat yourself to a pedicure. Starting the New Year on the right foot is easier when your toes are in tip-top shape.
  6. Go through all your clothes and shoes and donate anything you haven’t worn in the past year. If it’s been that long since you’ve worn something, you’re not going to miss it.
  7. Take a look at your skin and assess its current state. Could you use more hydration? Are you seeing signs of aging? Now is the time to add a new product to your routine and make sure you are fully stocked on all the products you need.
  8. Write down your personal and professional goals for the year, both big and small. Cross them off as you achieve them, add more as the year goes on, then look back at the list at the end 2019 — you’ll be impressed by all you’ve accomplished!
  9. Clean out your email inbox, delete unneeded files on your computer and remove apps from your phone that you no longer use. The more clutter you eliminate, the easier your tech will be to navigate.
  10. Take a restorative yoga or meditation class, or get a massage, to help you de-stress from the holiday chaos. It helps to start the year in a Zen-like state — or somewhere close to it!

Too Many Parties? How To Save Your Skin

Too Many Parties? How To Save Your Skin

The holidays and excess go hand-in-hand. Even if you start the season with the best of intentions, it’s easy to give in to the temptation of late nights, limitless sweets and other complexion catastrophes. That’s OK! Rodan + Fields product expert Mary Radford, RN, shares how to get your good skin back after you’ve overindulged:

Before You Go

Drink a lot of water.
“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, so think ahead and prepare for the festivities,” Mary says. Keep your skin (and the rest of you) happy by drinking a glass of water before you walk out the door. Once you’re at your event, if you are drinking alcohol, have a glass of water after every drink.

Have a healthy snack.
You’re more likely to overdo it at the buffet or dessert table if you arrive with an empty stomach. “Eat some protein and greens before the party to keep your stamina up and minimize overindulging in food or drinks,” says Mary.

Pamper your skin.
Our Active Hydration trio of products — Active Hydration Serum, Active Hydration Bright Eye Complex and Active Hydration Body Replenish — offer immediate and lasting hydration and help keep your skin looking younger and more radiant. “The possibility of running into your ex at a holiday party makes this combination a must!” Mary says.

When You Get Home

Wash. Your. Face.
Mary gets it: You’re exhausted. “Exercising your social butterfly wings can take its toll,” she says. Still, she always recommends using your full Regimen. Make the job easier by using ESSENTIALS Instant Makeup Removing Wipes and Complete Eye Makeup Remover before you cleanse. If you’ve got the energy, “Layering Active Hydration Serum into your Regimen will help you look more perky than you’ll feel in the morning.” Now go to sleep!

The Morning After

Fake being awake.
If your face is showing fatigue, Mary suggests avoiding dark clothes and makeup. “Lighten up with peach, pink, light blue, white or cream to look pulled-together and awake,” she says. And get an immediate glow with Rodan + Fields Radiant Defense Perfecting Liquid. “It makes your skin look flawless!”

Brighten your eyes.
Puffy, tired-looking eyes tip people off to the fact you’ve been out too late. Mary advises applying Active Hydration Bright Eye Complex to visibly improve dark circles and puffiness, and REDEFINE Multi-Function Eye Cream to improve the appearance of lines and loss of firmness. “I use both!” Mary says. “Party? What party?”

7 Things To Avoid If You Have Acne

7 Things To Avoid If You Have Acne

Got pimples? Here’s some helpful lifestyle advice if you or someone you love struggles with acne or has excessive breakouts, especially this time of year!

Nearly 50 million teenagers and adults a year experience acne, the most common skin condition in the United States. Battling breakouts can be incredibly frustrating, because they can be triggered by a complex combination of factors you can’t control — including genetics, hormones and the climate you live in — and there is no quick fix.

Getting clearer skin takes a little patience and requires products that interrupt each step of the acne cycle — like the Rodan + Fields UNBLEMISH Regimen. But while consistent, effective skincare is a must, making changes to your lifestyle and behavior can help, too. Here are seven habits to avoid if you have acne:

1. Washing your face too often or too vigorously. It seems counterintuitive, but cutting back on cleansing may improve your skin’s appearance. Vigorous scrubbing can irritate skin, causing more breakouts. Washing too often can strip away your skin’s essential oils, leading it to overcompensate and produce even more oil.

2. Eating dairy, sugar and white bread. It’s a myth that chocolate causes acne, but studies have shown that milk consumption and high-glycemic diets can play a part. Try dialing down the dairy, steering clear of sugar and cutting back on refined carbs and see if your skin responds.

3. Exercising in the heat. Your body may love hot yoga, but if you have acne, your skin probably doesn’t. When your skin is hot, oil glands increase production. Overheated skin is also more sensitive, which can lead to breakouts. If you absolutely can’t give up your favorite class, remove your makeup before exercising and wash your face immediately afterward so sweat, oil, and grime don’t sit there all day. If you use a sweatband, avoid wearing it across your forehead: The friction and pressure may lead to more breakouts.

4. Wearing heavy foundation. Some makeup can clog your pores. So while you might be tempted to cover your acne with lots of base and concealer, try to resist. Instead, consider NEW Rodan + Fields Radiant Defense Perfecting Liquid as the finishing step in your UNBLEMISH Regimen. This groundbreaking tinted multitasker is non-acnegenic, so it won’t cause breakouts.

5. Skipping laundry day. How can sleeping on dirty pillowcases and sheets make acne worse? Any dirt, oil or leftover makeup that got on your bedding last night can end up back on your face or body tonight, clogging your pores and leading to more breakouts.

6. Passing on moisturizer. Some acne-fighting ingredients can dry out your skin, and when skin is too dry, it produces even more oil. Use a moisturizer designed for acne-prone skin daily. Rodan + Fields Oil Control Lotion, Step 4 of the UNBLEMISH Regimen, is lightweight and even has sunscreen built in.

7. Stressing out. Studies show that stress can lead to acne flare-ups — which can cause even more stress. If you notice that you break out more when your stress level rises, take measures to add some calm to your life, and see if that helps calm your skin.

Treating acne is a marathon, not a sprint. With the right skincare and a few lifestyle changes, you’ll get to the finish line even sooner.

How To Tell If You Have Dry Skin – And How To Deal With It

How To Tell If You Have Dry Skin – And How To Deal With It

At one time or another, everyone has probably experienced dry skin on their arms, legs or elsewhere on their body. Dry body skin doesn’t look or feel the same for everyone, so you might notice just one of these signs or several at once:
Dry skin on your body can feel:

Tight, Itchy

Dry skin on your body can look:

Red, Ashy, Scaly, Cracked, Flaky

Depending on how much sun damage your skin has endured over the years, dry skin also may look crepey — thin, loose and papery, with surface lines.

Who gets dry skin and why?

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, some of the primary causes of dry skin are age and climate. People who submerge their hands and arms into water frequently as part of their job — such as doctors, nurses and hairstylists — are also prone to dry skin. So are people who swim in highly chlorinated pools.

Luckily, there is a product for dry body skin in its many manifestations:

NEW Rodan + Fields  Active Hydration Body Replenish. Whether your symptoms are caused by genetics, age, climate or occupation, one thing you have in common with other dry-skin sufferers is that you’re probably seeking relief from how your skin feels and visible improvement in the way your skin looks. That’s where Active Hydration Body Replenish comes in.

This rich-feeling body cream is both hydrating and moisturizing.

(What’s the difference between the two? Find out here.)  It’s powered by the patent-pending Rodan + Fields 3D3P Molecular Matrix, which draws in water from the atmosphere and holds it against your skin. After just one use, your skin will feel softer, smoother and more hydrated.

And the benefits get even better over time. Used daily, Rodan + Fields Active Hydration Body Replenish leaves skin feeling more nourished. In a four-week U.S. clinical study, Active Hydration Body Replenish more than doubled skin’s hydration level in just four weeks. A full 100% of study participants saw improvement in the overall appearance of their skin, 97% saw improvement in skin radiance and 94% saw improvement in the look of crepey skin.

Active Hydration Body Replenish is designed to relieve a multitude of dry-skin signs and works for all ages and skin types. So whether your skin is dry and crepey, flaky and itchy, or red and cracked, give it a try. Your body will thank you.

10 Things Women With Great Skin Do For Their Skin

10 Things Women With Great Skin Do For Their Skin

As the Rodan + Fields product-expert-in-residence, Mary Radford, RN, knows a thing or two about getting flawless-looking skin. These are 10 daily habits she, and other women she’s encountered, swear by:

1. Eat well. What you put into your body is as important as the products you put on your face. Eat a healthy diet, including a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables. They’re packed with vitamins and antioxidants that can do wonders for your complexion.

2. Drink lots of water. When you’re properly hydrated, skin looks and feels softer, smoother and younger. Mary recommends drinking extra water during and after exercise and when you’re out in the sun and heat.

3. Exercise regularly: Daily exercise not only boosts your mood; it relieves stress, improves circulation and can lead to more radiant skin.

4. Hands off. Breakout-triggering, pore-clogging bacteria is everywhere. Avoid touching your face, and when you do, wash your hands with soap and water first. Keep the other objects that touch your face as germ-free as possible, too. Clean your cell phone regularly, and sanitize your makeup brushes and applicators weekly.

5. Wear SPF. A broad-spectrum sunscreen is “the most important product to use every day,” Mary says. Yes — every single day, rain or shine, indoors or out. Remember to apply it to your neck, chest and hands, too.

6. Seek shade. Speaking of the sun, your best bet is to stay out of it. “Get your Hollywood on,” says Mary, with a wide-brimmed hat and large sunglasses to protect your face and eyes from damaging rays.

7. Wash nightly. Each day, your skin is exposed to pollution, bacteria, sweat and grime, not to mention makeup. None of these things belong on your face — or your pillow.

8. Cleanse kindly. Don’t traumatize your skin. Stick to lukewarm water (too-cold or too-hot water can be irritating) and avoid overzealous scrubbing.

9. Exfoliate regularly. Use a gentle product, like ENHANCEMENTS Micro-Dermabrasion Paste, on your face and body up to three times per week to reveal brighter, smoother and softer-looking skin.

10. Moisturize daily. As you age, notes Mary, natural moisture levels decrease. If skin is over dry, it can become easily irritated or start over-producing oil.  All skin types can benefit from our Active Hydration Serum; according to an 8-day U.S. clinical study, it increases hydration levels by 200% after just one use and keeps it there for eight hours.
